OUR CLIENTS

Make the Record You’ve Always Wanted to Hear...

We guide you through every step — from pre-production to final masters — so your band walks away with a record that captures who you really are.

STEP ONE

Preproduction

Send a demo and we’ll use it to nail the vibe. Pre-production is where we set tempo, key, scratch tracks, and the ideas that shape the song.

STEP TWO

Recording

You get the recording style that suits your band — live tracking, layered recording, or a mix of both. Whatever brings out your best, that’s what we do

STEP THREE

Mixing

Once production’s done, you get a mix that adds the clarity and depth the rough can’t. I start from your rough mix and deliver the first polished version a few days after tracking.

STEP FOUR

Mastering

You get a fresh perspective at the finish line. I send your mixes to a mastering engineer for the best results, with options from budget-friendly to top-tier — and help picking the right one.

Behind sawhorse

Hey, I’m Matt McQueen — producer, mixer, and the hands behind Sawhorse Recording.

I’ve been producing and mixing music for over 15 years, and running my own studio for the past decade. Along the way, the artists I’ve worked with have racked up more than 55 million streams across platforms — but what matters most to me is helping every band sound like themselves at their absolute best.
Sawhorse Recording is built on that idea — that great records aren’t manufactured, they’re built by hand. Every project that comes through here gets that kind of care, from tone-shaping and songcraft to the final mix. I love being in the room when things click — when a song starts breathing on its own. That’s the magic I chase every day.
And ultimately, that’s what you get when you walk through these doors: a place built with intention, a producer who cares about your songs as much as you do, and a process that gives your band the space to be fully yourselves. You get clarity, direction, and a partner who knows how to turn your ideas into a record you’re proud to blast at full volume. This is where your best songs become the record you’ve always wanted to hear.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Some of our most frequently-asked-questions:

Q. How much does it cost to make a record at Sawhorse?

Every project is a little different — it depends on how many songs you’re recording, how prepared your band is, and how involved you want me to be in the production. Most full-band projects fall into a predictable range, and I’ll walk you through options during a quick discovery call. The goal is simple: find the right plan that gets you the best record you’ve ever made without wasting time or money.

Q. Do we have to record everything live, or can we build the songs piece by piece?

You can work either way — but my specialty is capturing real performances. Some bands track the whole song live in the big church room, others do a hybrid approach (live drums + overdub guitars/vocals). We’ll choose the method that gets your sound to hit the hardest. Nothing is forced, but authenticity is always the north star.

Q. What makes Sawhorse different from other studios?

Absolutely. Most bands haven’t done this before, and that’s exactly why my process is built around guidance. I help you with pre-production, song structure, tones, performances, and getting the most out of your time in the studio. You don’t have to have all the answers — you just have to show up ready to play.

Q. How long does it take to record a song or a full album?

A single song usually takes 1–2 days for tracking + overdubs, and mixing takes another day or two depending on complexity. A full album typically ranges from 10–14 days of tracking/mixing spread across your schedule. The exact timeline depends on your preparation, the number of songs, and how polished you want things. We’ll create a clear roadmap during pre-pro so nothing feels rushed.
